The 2nd Arsakeio-Tositseio High School of Ekali has adopted, since the school year 2012-2013, the theater and the Sanctuary of Dionysus in the ancient municipality of Ikarion, Attica (ie in the current municipality of Dionysos, Attica), in collaboration with the association DIAZOMA.
The Sanctuary of Dionysus is considered the place where the drama was born in antiquity, because Thespis, the creator of the drama, lived there. Through this program our students realize that they live in the place where the drama was born, they know the place through visits, they learn the history of the ancient municipality, they study the bibliography and talk with scientists, they become aware of the ancient heritage, they love and promote monuments of their area in Greece and abroad.
From 2012 until 2017, the NW Arsakeio - Tositsio Gymnasium of Ekali carried out a series of activities, during the implementation of the above program and among them compiled a brochure (2014) entitled "Ikarion: Guide to the archaeological site in Dionysos, Attica". The brochure includes an access map to the archeological site of the Municipality of Dionysos, photos and information about the ancient municipality and the important monuments located there, as well as the myth of Ikarios and Erigoni, which is related to the ancient municipality of Ikaria Attica, ie current municipality of Dionysos. The guide has already been printed, with the sponsorship of "Diazomatos", in Greek, English and French, while its translations in German and Italian are already ready for printing.
